Communications & Program Assistant

SUMMARY

Open to All (OTA) seeks a Communications & Program Assistant to join our dynamic, all-remote team. This entry-level position will be responsible for assisting with a range of communications and program support needs for the organization. Open to All is a small team of two looking for a third person to help build our movement to create a culture of belonging where everyone is welcome and respected. Because we are a small but mighty team, we are looking for someone who is willing to be entrepreneurial and roll up their sleeves, both working in a communications position to help build our external brand and presence on social media, and helping to grow the program by drafting other external content and working with corporate partners.

The Open to All team works with a start-up mentality where everyone contributes equally to our vision and strategy and prioritizes equity and inclusion in our internal and external work. We are looking for an assistant to round out our team to implement Open to All’s mission to educate, engage, and activate businesses and nonprofits to grow a single, unified campaign that sends a message that everyone is welcome, valued, and respected. Ideal candidates will be equally comfortable working with both corporations and nonprofit organizations. Additionally, this person should have a strong team spirit and be willing to jump in when needed as new programs and projects are created, such as our Mitigate Racial Bias in Retail Charter.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Open to All, the position will focus on:

  • Social media (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn for Open to All; development of social media toolkits for corporate partners for key announcements or initiatives)
  • Writing/content creation (e.g., drafting web copy, announcements, blogs, and social media posts)
  • Program support including logistics/communications surrounding our monthly virtual briefing series for corporate partners; support with our annual conference for corporate partners, and responding to initial corporate inquiries, etc.

The Communications & Program Assistant has a deep commitment to, and understanding of, the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This role requires an individual who values intersectionality and prioritizes lifting up the voices of underrepresented communities.

The successful candidate will have very strong writing and editing skills, a strong understanding of social media, and enthusiasm for communications for social change; they will be a creative thinker and have the willingness to roll up their sleeves. They should be a self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as a core member of an all-remote team. They should have a knack for keeping track of loose ends and the ability to toggle between multiple projects.

This position requires a self-motivated individual capable of effective and proactive communication with members of the team and external stakeholders, who can effectively manage their time, and who has outstanding attention to detail. The ideal candidate can think strategically and act tactically. Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office and the following social media platforms: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Experience with Canva or an alternative graphic program to create basic social media graphics is preferred.

This position is full time at 40 hours/week. Please note, this job is remote with the ability to travel approximately 2-3 times per year. The position reports to the Open to All’s Deputy Director.
